EMBROIDERY WITH ADRIANNA TORRES

I am excited to announce a visiting artist workshop with Adriana Torres, artist, illustrator and founder of Miga de Pan. studied architecture and graphic design at the University of Buenos Aires. Adrianna is on a world tour and will be stopping by our Toronto studio (Oct. 18-19) to teach a 3 day exploration on creative and clever ways to embroider letters of the alphabet, you will also learn endless creative possibilities for mending the things we love and on the last day learn high raise stitches and knots. BOTANICAL COLOURS

I will be teaching 2 one day workshops. Both classes will be exploring techniques to create surface designs including, clay resist and block printing. The fabric will be overdyed with indigo to give detail and texture. Please join me in exploring these techniques at Botanical Colours based in Seattle, WA

This virtual botanical embroidery course explores the intersection of art, science, and folklore. Join famed author and artist Arounna Khounnoraj, along with herbalist and professor Katherine Elmer and lecturing mycologist Ari Rockland-Miller, for a three part workshop designed to elevate our stitching through a deep investigation into plant structure and potentials. Express your newly discovered knowledge in thread, elaborating an original abstract botanical design by Arounna with your own stitches.

ace camps - laos

Join Arounna Khounnoraj in her home country of Laos for a very special textile discovery journey. Arounna id excited to share this beautiful country with you as together you explore various forms of textile printing such as block printing and painting on fabric with resists and modifiers, natural dyeing using local plants and different techniques of fabric embroidery.

You will also work with local artisans from Ock Pop Tok and Passa Paa learning about silk types, natural dyeing and indigo, how to weave on a large floor loom, silk screening and Hmong style batik wax resist printing and embroidery.

Madeline island school of art

In this workshop we will use different printing and painting techniques like mark making to create surfaces and textures that we will use to create a small quilt. We will also explore natural dyeing and use modifiers and binders to create patterns. The piece will be sewn into a wall hanging and the sewn elements will be combined with embroidery.
