scribble garden

It's a lot of fun working with black india ink - it's probably one of my favorite mediums. I also enjoy random scribbles. This is a project that allows you to deconstruct those scibbles and collage them together to create an unexpected image. Please visit bloesem kids for all the instructions.

studio interview

the lovely Jan from Poppytalk is wrapping up on being a guestblog on Design Sponge - she asked us to be part of her series on artists and their studio. Please have a read over at Design Sponge guest blog.

coming soon....

thanks for the emails regarding when I will make new bags - I have been busy working on my sculptural work and havn't had a chance to work on new prototypes - so - I set some time aside today and redesigned a bag that I did awhile a go - I like the outside pocket and I decided for the first time to line the bag and handles with sturdy canvas - I originally wanted to make only canvas bags with repeat images, but decided there is a reason why I like linen so much - so I thought using the canvas as a lining will provide the shaping I was after.

extended landscape

this is always a fun exercise for drawing - it gives you a lot of practice with perspective and colour - give it a try over at bloesem kids. Sunday we will be celebrating Lliam's 2nd birthday - his real birth date is on tuesday. He has made both of us so happy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

steamer chair

this new one off childeren's chair is made from an old ocean liner deck chair - the wood is teak and maple with original brass fittings .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

braided scarves

it has just been gorgeous here and why am I making wool and alpaca scarves? - am I insane - well ever since I saw the tutorial onYoo-ii's blog ah-yi (who also makes the most beautiful prints) I couldn't stop making these braided scarves - I am the world's slowest knitter and to complete a scarf within a few hours was so addicted - I immediately went to Lettuce Knit to buy some yarn and realized it was much cheaper to order it from Purl Soho (with much more selection).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

pattern print book cover

one of the things that I really enjoy these days is printing - lino printing is so fast and easy and has so many applications - give it a try - instructions over at bloesem kids.

planet kid

Store

we dropped off our work today at planet kid - it was such a beautiful and sunny day. I have spent the past few days doing critiques and it can be quite exhausting. Afterwards we went to one of our favorite breakfast places Boom on college street. It's nice to hang out with my two guys. If your in the neighbourhood please come view our work and to see other wonderful toronto designers.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

unexpected order

I woke this morning to find our kitchen floor littered with cupcake paper - I think lliam had fun taking each one and laying them out - john commented that he'll be a sculptor like his mom.

I also noticed on our credenza all his toys arranged as if waiting to board a boat - planes, trains and a dog?.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

drawing bug

a drawing bug? - yes! -this is such a fun fun project - check out how to build one over at bloesem kids. Coming soon you will find a big selection of bookhou's baby collection over at planet kid on queen street west.

corners of the studio

this past week has been stressful - we are searching for a brick and mortar shop and have been confronted with disappointment and hope - We have one last place to view and we'll see if it will work out - I know that if we were to leave our current space I would miss the space - john worked so hard to make it a wonderful home for us.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

light

as spring slowly approaches I am enjoying the light and following it through our space. We have old slides that sit on the window frame and I enjoy seeing the images shine through.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

chocolates

my view over my sewing table - I've been busy this past few weeks fulfilling orders and the sale section is almost sold out - just a few more items and there will be more items added later - we are still nibbling through our delicious chocolate from a french company name chocolates (no website) - I admit I'm not a dark chocolate fan, but they have converted me- their packaging is so beautiful along with the paper they choose.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

marquetry-like picture

The hat that lliam is wearing is made by roisin fagan of bespoke uprising you can also read more about roisin on her blog. Her clothes for kids are fun and so well made - have a look at this weeks project - making a marquetry-like picture with wood veneer over at bloesem kids.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

sunshine

thanks to everyone that visited the sale section - only a few items left. John enjoying the much needed sunshine and here is a peek at the process of one of my sculptural pieces. The drawing that I showed you earlier was used to be printed on white linen and now I am using the drawing as a guideline to sew lines on top of the printed part .

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

weekend visits

visiting friends and being treated to very yummy homemade pizza - left image is sonny and roxy. Yesterday was also a little girl's birthday party - I don't think I've ever seen so much pink in one room.
